Ingredients

  • 10 cups apples
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 squeeze lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 1 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • vanilla ice cream

Steps

  1. 1Heat the oven to 350°F.
  2. 2Pile the apple slices into a 9x13-inch baking dish. Toss the sugar, the tablespoon of flour, and half the cinnamon together and sprinkle it over the apples with a squeeze of lemon. Drizzle the water over everything.
  3. 3Stir the oats, remaining cup of flour, brown sugar, the rest of the cinnamon, baking powder, and baking soda together. Pour in the melted butter and mix until it clumps into crumbles.
  4. 4Scatter the crumble evenly over the apples, right to the edges.
  5. 5Bake about 45 minutes, until the topping is golden and the apples bubble at the corners.
  6. 6Let it settle 10 minutes, then serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting into every bowl.
