Ingredients

  • 6 cups sliced peaches
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup whole milk

Steps

  1. 1Heat the oven to 375°F. Toss the peaches with half the sugar, the lemon juice, and cinnamon, and spread in a 9-by-13 baking dish.
  2. 2Whisk the flour, remaining sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk in the melted butter and milk until just combined into a thick, pourable batter.
  3. 3Pour the batter evenly over the peaches — do not stir it in. The batter rises up through the fruit as it bakes.
  4. 4Bake 40 to 45 minutes until deeply golden on top and bubbling at the edges.
  5. 5Cool 15 minutes before serving warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting on top.
