Questions about the free card scan
What it reads, what happens to your photo, and what you get with a free account.
Is the recipe card scan really free?
Yes. You can read a card here without an account. A free account keeps going: the Free plan holds up to 20 recipes and 3 family members, includes AI recipe reading, and needs no credit card.
What happens to my photo?
We keep the photo and what we read from it for up to 30 days, so we can check and improve how well cards are read. If you save the recipe, the photo stays with it in your cookbook. Otherwise it is deleted after 30 days.
Can it read cursive and old, faded cards?
Usually, yes. Cursive, fractions and shorthand like "c." for cup and "T." for tablespoon all read well when the photo is sharp and evenly lit. Very faded ink reads best in daylight, without a flash.
What if it gets something wrong?
You see the recipe before anything is saved, and you can fix any line in the editor. The original card photo stays beside the recipe, so the handwriting is always there to check against.
Do I need the app?
No. Everything works in your browser. The iPhone app makes a whole recipe box faster: scan both sides of a card and keep going one card after another.
